"In the multitude of counsel there is wisdom" is what the book of proverbs says, after all, many heads weigh better.
If you had access to an advisor who knows everything, knows your past, your future, your structure, limitations and potential, He doesn't just know you from the outside, but from the inside, how would you treat him, what value would you place on him, what would you do with the advice he gives you?
During December and April, we heard and read several times the text from the prophet Isaiah about the birth of Jesus:
"For a child has been born to us,
a son has been given to us,
and the government is on his shoulders.
And he shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
A very interesting commentary on the prophecy says: "As the prophecy of Isaiah 9:6-7 unfolds, we receive more revelations about the person this prophecy is about. First, we know that there is a child to be born and that He is a gift, which means that the gift is unmerited, just as grace and mercy are unmerited. We know that He will also have the title of King, because the government will be on His shoulders. Now we see that with this kingship comes wonderful leadership and guidance (or counseling) for those who seek it." Editorial from the Jweish Roots website.
The prophecy says that this child, The Christ, would not just be a counselor, but the Wonderful Counselor.
The word Wonderful can be translated as Extraordinary, An extraordinary Counselor
And what does the word Counselor mean? It can be defined, according to the dictionary, as someone To advise; reflexively, to deliberate or resolve: -- to announce, advise, counsel (well), consult, (give, receive) advice , determine, devise, guide, purpose.
Why is Jesus, the Christ, the extraordinary counselor? If we stop to reflect a little, we'll realize
that he has all knowledge and wisdom, he is the Almighty and his words are life, sure direction, the right path.
Knowing all this, what are we doing with his advice? What are we doing with the knowledge he makes available to us? Wouldn't it be a tremendous waste to ignore his advice?
The precious treasure of knowing him and walking with him is also related to not just knowing that he is a counselor, but walking in his counsel. Such knowledge cannot be rejected unless you have not received him as a counselor.
In Revelation it is written:
Blessed are those who read, and those who hear, the words of this prophecy and obey the directions written in it, for the time of these events is at hand. Chapter 1 verse 3
Reading what is written in the Bible and putting it into practice, obeying it, is what it means to walk in its counsel. When we despise reading what is written, we are despising listening to his counsel. If you read and don't obey, you're also despising his advice.
Dedicate time to knowing what is written and dedicate effort to putting it into practice, anyone in their right mind knowing who Jesus is cannot despise such a treasure in having the Lord as their Counselor.
